Meet The Crew

Meet the Crew

They say that you don’t choose dreams, rather they choose you. Five years ago Seán stumbled upon one such dream, but it took him four more years to find three friends foolish enough to chase it alongside him.

From December 2017 to January 2018, the Relentless crew raced across the Atlantic Ocean competing in the Talisker Whiskey Atlantic Challenge. The race started in La Gomera, a Canary Island steeped in Maritime History - It was from this very island that Christopher Columbus set sail in search of the “New World” some 500 years ago.

From here the Relentless Crew raced across 5000km of open ocean towards the Caribbean island of Antigua, finishing the race in 32 days and 22 hours - Setting the record for a transatlantic row for a Republic of Ireland Crew.

Seán Underwood

Seán first got to grips with rowing whilst attending Presentation Brothers College Cork. Sean, rowing alongside Eoin, has spent countless hours racing up and down our own Lee and has the calloused hands to prove it!

After finishing up with Pres Rowing, he attended UCC Medical School where he developed a Grá for all things critical care.

He is currently completing a year of Anaesthetic training in the Mercy University Hospital, spending most of his time in the Intensive Care Unit. When the arrest bleep goes off you’ll spot him squeezing in some extra training by sprinting down the hospital
corridors!

Pat O'Connor

Patrick O’ Connor

Never one to shy from a challenge, Pat jumped at the chance to row the Atlantic… even despite having no prior rowing experience and a questionable swimming ability! However, Pat is a supreme athlete. He has had many sporting successes, not least of which was representing Ireland and receiving a bronze medal at the World Kickboxing Championships. A more recent sporting achievement of Pat’s, is the feat of cycling (590km) from Malin head to Mizen head in under 24hr for Pieta House!

Pat and Séan first met in Medical School and became close friends when they were living together in Clonmel as part of their surgical training. Pat knew the pair would get along well when Séan arrived at the house looking a little worse for wear after having skateboarded from Cork to Clonmel, a 100km journey.

When he’s not busy working long hours in our local hospitals, you’ll find him at home on his farm tending to his “other patients” – the dairy cows. You may even recognize him from TG4s’ Feirm Factor, where he was crowned Ireland’s greatest farmer!
